Handover of Medical Equipment and Supplies Worth MK2.5 Billion at Zomba Mental Hospital

Zomba Mental Hospital has taken a significant step forward in strengthening mental healthcare services following the handover of medical equipment and supplies valued at approximately MK2.5 billion. The donation is expected to greatly enhance service delivery and improve patient care across the institution.

The handover ceremony was graced by the Guest of Honour, Traditional Authority Mulumbe, alongside other distinguished guests including His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Christopher Jana, the Chief Executive Officer of Zomba City Council, Mr. Bakolo, and a representative from the Zomba District Commissioner’s office, Mr. Dowe. Their presence highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, traditional leadership, and development partners in improving public health services.

Zomba Mental Hospital extends its sincere appreciation to Project C.U.R.E through Patriots from Malawi for facilitating this generous donation. Additional recognition goes to Smiling Surgeons Association, UPS, and Islamic Relief, whose support and partnership played a vital role in ensuring the successful delivery of the consignment.

During the ceremony, Prof. Edrinne Kayambazinthu emphasized the importance of taking good care of the donated equipment, noting that the resources ultimately belong to the community. She encouraged staff to ensure proper use and maintenance so that the equipment continues to benefit patients for many years to come.

The Controller of Administration at Zomba Mental Hospital, Mr. A. Lihoma, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to responsible asset management. He assured all partners that the hospital has a strong culture of safeguarding its resources and that the newly received equipment will contribute significantly to improving the quality of services provided.

The program began with a brief meeting involving all stakeholders, followed by the official opening of the container. The process was witnessed by all partners present, including officials from the Malawi Revenue Authority, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the handover.
